Beach Wheelchairs & Walkers

Beach wheelchairs and all-terrain walkers let you get back onto sand, grass, gravel and trails where a standard wheelchair sinks or stalls. We carry chairs from DeBug Mobility, Wheeleez and Accessrec, from about $1,290 for an all-terrain rollator to $4,265 for a tilt-in-space reclining chair. Choose a fixed-frame chair for everyday beach trips, a reclining or tilt-in-space model for extra support, a floating chair for getting into the water, or a beach walker or rollator if you can walk with support. Every model here is built from corrosion-resistant materials for salt, sand and sun.

How to choose a beach wheelchair

Start with how the user sits and moves, then where you will use the chair.

  • Fixed-frame chairs are the simplest and lightest option for regular beach visits.
  • Reclining and tilt-in-space chairs suit users who need trunk support or pressure relief during longer outings.
  • Elevating leg rests help users who need their legs raised.
  • Floating chairs, like the Accessrec BW150, let the user go into shallow water.
  • Pediatric chairs, like the Wheeleez Sandpiper, fit children and petite adults up to 143 lb.

Wheels and frame

Wide balloon or pneumatic polyurethane wheels spread the load so the chair rolls over soft sand instead of digging in. Look for marine-grade stainless steel or aluminum frames; DeBug uses #316L stainless steel, a higher grade than standard #304 marine stainless, for longer life in salt air.

Walking aids for sand

If the user can walk with support, an all-terrain rollator or beach walker keeps them on their feet. See the Wheeleez and Accessrec rollators and the DeBug beach walker in this collection.

Beach Wheelchairs & Walkers: frequently asked questions

Can a beach wheelchair go in the water?

Most beach wheelchairs are built for sand, not water. Floating models like the Accessrec BW150 are designed for shallow water use.

How do beach wheelchair wheels work on sand?

Wide, low-pressure balloon or polyurethane wheels spread the weight over a larger area, so the chair rolls on top of soft sand instead of sinking.

Is there a beach wheelchair for children?

Yes. The Wheeleez Sandpiper is a padded all-terrain beach wheelchair for children and petite adults up to 143 lb.

How do I care for a beach wheelchair?

Rinse the frame and wheels with fresh water after each beach visit to remove salt and sand, and let the sling dry before storage.
