Buying a Used Hyperbaric Chamber: Risks, Checks & When New Is Cheaper
Is a used hyperbaric chamber worth buying? It can save you money, but you'll almost always lose the manufacturer warranty, and you inherit whatever wear the zippers, seals and compressor already have. This guide shows you exactly what to inspect, what to ask the seller, and how to work out whether the "bargain" is really cheaper than new.
Quick answer
- The zippers, seals, compressor and oxygen concentrator wear out first. Sellers rarely bring them up.
- Never assume a warranty transfers to a second owner. Ask the manufacturer, and get the answer in writing.
- A well-kept hard shell with full service records can be worth a look. A soft chamber usually isn't, unless the saving is big.
- Compare the price once it's delivered and repaired, not the price on the listing. New soft chambers start at $5,750, shipped free.
- Cheapest new picks for 2026: TECNOTU TecnoLay Classic, TECNOTU 1.5 ATA Recline and TECNOTU TecnoSit Classic.
At Selected Comfort, we help families choose, set up and look after home hyperbaric chambers every day, and we hear from plenty of people who bought used first. Everything below comes from those conversations and from the manufacturers' own specs. If you'd rather compare new options as you read, browse our hyperbaric chambers.
Why a used hyperbaric chamber for sale is so tempting
A used listing is tempting because it looks a few thousand dollars cheaper than new and fine in the photos. The photos are the problem.
I get it. You've priced a new chamber, then you spot a used hyperbaric chamber for sale for a lot less. But the people who call us after buying used tell remarkably similar stories: zippers that won't hold, a leak they can't find, a tired compressor, a weak concentrator, masks that never turned up. Each one turns a bargain into a repair bill.
What wears out on a used hyperbaric chamber
The parts that hold pressure and make oxygen wear out first. Scuffs and stains can wait.
Zippers and seals
On a soft chamber, the zipper is the seal. That's why the TECNOTU 1.5 ATA Recline uses a double YKK zipper. After a few years of daily use, the teeth loosen, and air finds its way out under pressure.
The shell and seams
TECNOTU rates its chambers for 8,000 to 10,000 inflation cycles, so ask how many sessions it's done. If the seller doesn't know, that tells you something.
The compressor
It runs for every minute of every session. An old one can still inflate the chamber and then struggle to hold working pressure. You won't spot that in a two-minute demo.
The oxygen concentrator
This one fades quietly. It hums, the light's on, and it puts out less flow or lower purity than the label says.
Filters and accessories
MACY-PAN's ST2200 spec sheet calls for a new air filter every six months. In private sales, the masks, tubing, remote and manual go missing more often than you'd think.

10-point inspection checklist for a second hand hyperbaric chamber
Watch it run at working pressure before you hand over any money. These are the checks I'd make on any second hand hyperbaric chamber.
Walk away if
The seller won't switch it on, can't show a serial number, or won't let you watch it hold pressure for a full session. No inspection, no deal.
Before the viewing
- Model and serial number. Ask for a photo of the label. Confirm the brand, model, pressure rating and age.
- Original receipt. Who sold it new, and when? You'll need this for any warranty or parts question later.
- Service history. Filter changes, compressor service, repairs. Ask for the records.
- Session count. Roughly how many sessions has it done, and how often?
At the viewing
- Zippers and seals. Run every zipper end to end. Look for missing teeth, fraying or gaps.
- Shell and seams. Check every surface in good light for punctures, patches and stretched seams.
- Pressure hold. Inflate it to working pressure and watch the gauge for a full session. It should stay put.
- Concentrator output. Ask to see flow and purity on an oxygen analyzer. For comparison, a new TECNOTU TecnoLay Classic comes with a 10 L/min concentrator rated at 90% to 97% purity.
- Safety features. Test the emergency release valve and both gauges. Make sure you can open the chamber from inside.
- Paperwork and accessories. Check the manual, masks, tubing, filters and remote against the original packing list.
Pro tip
Don't skip the manual. The FDA's safety letter on hyperbaric devices boils down to following the manufacturer's instructions. And talk to your doctor first (here's whether you need a prescription).

Warranty and transfer: what you give up
Assume the warranty stays with the first owner. TECNOTU, MACY-PAN, OxyRevo and Kingshare warranties shouldn't be treated as transferable, because each manufacturer sets its own rules.
How to check before you buy
- Email the manufacturer with the chamber's serial number.
- Ask, in plain words, whether they'll cover a second owner, and for how long.
- Keep the written reply with your receipt. A verbal "should be fine" from the seller is worth nothing.
Buy new from us, and you get the manufacturer's warranty, with our team helping you file any claim under our warranty policy. We don't extend or change manufacturer warranties, so read the terms for your model.
Already bought used? We can help you look into replacement parts and technical support, depending on the brand and what's available. Repairs and parts may cost extra. Our parts, service and warranty page is the place to start.
The true cost of a used vs new hyperbaric chamber
Compare the cost of a chamber that's delivered and working, not the listing price. A private sale leaves a lot of that on you.
| Cost item | Used, private sale | New from Selected Comfort |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Seller's asking price | Soft chambers from $5,750 |
| Freight or pickup | You arrange and pay | Free US shipping |
| Warranty | Don't assume it transfers | Manufacturer warranty, with claim help |
| Weak concentrator | Replaced at your cost | New concentrator included |
| Missing accessories | Bought separately | Full kit in the box |
| Price match | Not available | Matched against authorized retailers |
| Financing | Usually cash | Available, subject to approval |

Quick math
Say a soft chamber is listed at $4,000. Add freight, then a new concentrator because the old one failed the output test, then masks and filters. The gap to a new chamber at $5,750 shrinks to almost nothing, and you still don't have a warranty you can count on.
So when does used make sense?
Not often. A professionally maintained hard shell with complete service records, a verified operating pressure and support that genuinely transfers may be worth considering. For soft chambers, I'd favour new, unless the used one is substantially cheaper and passes every check above.
A refurbished hyperbaric chamber falls somewhere in the middle. Ask who did the work, what they replaced, and who stands behind it now.
Open-box and demo units: the middle option
Open-box, floor-model and demo units cost less than new, come with a known history, and the seller still answers the phone. That makes them the safest way to save if a private sale makes you nervous.

The bottom line
A used hyperbaric chamber only makes sense when it passes every check, comes with service records, and is still meaningfully cheaper once you add freight, repairs and missing parts. That's rare for soft chambers.
If the numbers are close, buy new or open-box. You get a warranty someone stands behind, a full kit, and a team you can call when something needs attention.
Thinking about buying used?
Send us the model and asking price. We'll compare it honestly against new or open-box, no pressure either way.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to buy a used hyperbaric chamber?
It can be, if it holds working pressure for a full session, the concentrator meets spec, the safety valves work and the manual comes with it. Skip those checks and you're trusting a stranger with pressurized oxygen equipment.
Does a hyperbaric chamber warranty transfer to a new owner?
Don't assume so. It depends on the manufacturer's policy. Contact them with the serial number and get written confirmation before you buy.
How much does a used hyperbaric chamber cost?
It varies widely with brand, age, condition, pressure rating and accessories. Add freight and likely repairs to the used price, then compare that total with a new soft chamber from $5,750 with free US shipping.
Is a refurbished hyperbaric chamber worth it?
It can be a middle ground. Ask who refurbished it, which parts were replaced, and who stands behind it now. If nobody offers support after the sale, treat it like any other used chamber and run the full checklist.
What wears out first on a soft hyperbaric chamber?
The zipper, which doubles as the seal, followed by the seams, the compressor and the oxygen concentrator. TECNOTU rates its chambers for 8,000 to 10,000 inflation cycles, so always ask how many sessions a used unit has done.
Can Selected Comfort help with a chamber I bought elsewhere?
Yes. We can help you look into replacement parts and technical support, depending on the brand and what's available. Repairs and parts may cost extra. Start with our parts and service page.
